SWITZERLAND: The first five-section Flexity Basel tram entered revenue service on Route 3 of the city’s tram network on November 4. From next year it is expected to enter service on routes 15 and 16.

In 2012 transport authority BVB ordered 61 Flexity trams from Bombardier for SFr255m. The 100% low-floor metre gauge trams come in two variants: 44 are 42·9 m long seven-section trams and the remaining 17 are 31·6 m five-section vehicles. The first long Flexity arrived in Basel in September 2014, and 30 are currently in service. Deliveries of the remaining 14 are due to end in mid-2017, with all 17 short trams delivered by early 2018.
