TECHNOLOGY company Prominente and specialist transport commercial development business Metronec have launched a contactless smart card for Buenos Aires. As well as being used to buy Metrovías metro and train tickets, Subtecard is an electronic purse which can be used at Subtexpress shops and to buy cinema tickets. It can be used as a stored value card, topped up by cash deposits in 5 peso increments. Alternatively, it can be charged to 21 pesos, the equivalent of 30 metro trips. When the stored balance reaches zero, the Subtecard is automatically recharged to 21 pesos from a credit or debit card account.
