Dallas Area Rapid Transit has called bids for a new station at Esters Road in West Irving, which will form part of a 4·8 km extension of the Trinity Railway Express commuter service due to open next year. It will have a canopied platform with a high block for disabled access, and a 500-space car park reached by an extension of an existing street. Completion of the 55 km line to Fort Worth is now scheduled for 2001.

In California, Ventura city council has voted to build an interim station at Montalvo, where Metrolink trains for the Oxnard - Los Angeles commuter service are stabled. This will bring Metrolink services to Ventura for the first time. In the longer term, the city wants a more convenient location, possibly at Seaside Park where Amtrak trains currently stop.
