EUROPE: Veolia Cargo has announced the launch of its first new freight service using resources from the Rail4chem business which it acquired earlier this year.

On August 4 Veolia began transporting loose malt to Antwerpen from Malteurop's main production site at Vitry-le-François in France. Within France the trains are operated by Veolia Cargo France, and in Belgium by the Benelux subsidiary using resources from Rail4chem.

'This is the first contract to be operated in collaboration with Rail4chem, which we recently integrated into our company', said Antoine Hurel, Chief Executive of Veolia Cargo. 'Our entry into the Belgian market is a decisive step in our European expansion strategy.'
