GERMAN Railway has adopted LonWorks networking technology to automate the management of station equipment and systems at its new Frankfurt Airport inter-city station. Escalators, lifts, fire alarms, smoke detectors, lighting and air-conditioning equipment are amongst over 1000 devices and 7000 data points connected to the network. There is a single interface to the station management system which has both local controls and remote access from Frankfurt Hbf.
The integrated network was developed for DB by the Hermos Group, using LonWorks protocols from Echelon Corp. Hermos was also selected as system integrator for components from other LonMark approved suppliers. These included TAC Xenta 301 and 401 HVAC controllers, and other equipment from Gebrueder Trox GmbH, Tridonic and Sysmik GmbH.
