DYNAMIC measurements of the height of a power supply rail can be taken using the DT800 data-logger, which Atkins Rail is using to identify misalignments that could potentially damage pick-up shoe gear.

Fitted to the shoe of an EMU, the DT800 samples up to 130000 data points with a measurement every 0·5m. There are 42 analogue and 16 digital channels able to monitor DC and AC supply voltages, current, resistance, temperature, strain and frequencies. Data is stored on removable ATA Flash PC cards, with battery-backed RAM.
