Sydney's Parramatta Light Rail green track

A 12-month test to assess growth rate and durability was used to select the type of grass to be installed on 1·3 km of green track which is being installed on Stage 1 of Sydney’s Parramatta Light Rail project. ‘As an Australian native species, Zoysia Nara turf is highly durable and well-equipped to tolerate Parramatta’s unique soil and climatic conditions’, said NSW Minister for Transport David Elliott. ‘Its key advantage is the species’ slow growth rate, which makes it low maintenance. The community will also benefit from the reduced urban heat and greener spaces.’

A three-section Type 71-418 low-floor tram produced by Uraltransmash in 2019 has completed trials in Yekaterinburg, and returned to the factory for interior modifications based on passenger feedback.

Buenos Aires metro operator EMOVA has awarded Alstom a contract for the overhaul of 15 Metropolis 100 series metro cars, which were originally manufactured by Alstom in Brazil. This will include installation of LED lighting, repainting, new upholstery and the installation of air-conditioning.

Catalunya infrastructure body Infraestructures.cat has awarded Sener a five-year contract to manage upgrades to the Barcelona metro’s command and control technology. This will include project monitoring and financial oversight, certification, incident and risk reports, as well as specialised services defining guidelines applicable to the contractor.

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded a joint venture of Singapore Engineering & Construction and Sinohydro a S$363m contract for the design and construction of civil works for Pasir Ris East station on the first phase of the Cross Island Line. Work is expected to start in Q2 this year for opening in 2030.
