Swedish national operator SJ AB announced in January that it to refurbish its fleet of 36 X2000 trainsets, at an estimated cost of SKr 500 000. The work had been postponed for financial reasons. The seven sets operated by SJ-NSB joint venture Linx were refurbished last year.

To be completed by 2005-06, the work will include enlargement of the bistro area and revisions to the seating layout to reflect changing demand for first and second class travel. Four firms are believed to have expressed interest in the contract, including former SJ subsidiary Euromaint, which recently announced 200 redundancies at its Tillberga workshops.
