Plasser & Theurer has developed the ZW range of compact self-loading track maintenance machines, designed for use on regional and urban railways. Each of the four ZW models is equipped with four hydraulic jacks which raise the machine clear of the rails, allowing a flatbed road trailer to be positioned beneath it. The jacks are then lowered and the machine is on the trailer.

The current self-loading range comprises the Plassermatic 08-275ZW track and switch tamping machine, the Beaver 90ZW tamper, the SSP101ZW ballast profiling machine (pictured) and the USP403ZW ballast distributor and profiler. The ZW range can also transfer from trailer to rail at level crossings using an additional turntable.
