FRANCE: SNCF Réseau has announced the signature of a 10-year agreement with Orange that will see the company market spare capacity on the railway optic fibre network to telecommunications operators. Under the deal announced on May 3, Orange will also be able to make use of this capacity to complement its own network.

Over the last five years, 4 300 km of optic fibre have been installed for railway telecommunications, a figure which is due to rise to 14 000 km by 2024. SNCF Réseau will be responsible for maintenance and the provision of new connections under the agreement, which should contribute to the wider target of completing nationwide coverage by 2022.
