AUSTRALIA: Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority is to issue a request for information to gauge manufacturers’ interest in supplying at least 50 six-car electric multiple-units to double the size of the Transperth fleet.
The additional EMUs would support anticipated ridership growth on the 1 067 mm gauge network, as well as planned expansion projects including the airport line.
‘The RFI outlines the requirements for the next generation of trains for the Transperth network, to be known as the C-Series’, said Transport Minister Dean Nalder on August 21. ‘It outlines the scope of the project to deliver a minimum of 50 six-car trains over a 10-year period. Clearly this will be a huge contract, particularly because it will involve a long-term maintenance arrangement. The purpose of this RFI is to get an early indication of how many companies would be able to deliver such a large order of high-quality railcars.’
The state government is also ‘keen to learn about recent advances in railcar design and technology that will ultimately make our future railcar fleet more efficient.’
- Golder Associates has been awarded a A$5·7m contract to undertake geotechnical studies for the Forrestfield-Airport Link. Construction is planned to run from 2016 to 2020.
