Bernardo Figueiredo has been named Chief Executive of EPL, Brazil's new multi-modal transport planning and logistics agency established by Presidential decree on August 15. EPL absorbs Etav, the state-owned company formed earlier this year to promote the development of a high speed line linking Campinas, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. EPL will continue to manage this project, but will also take responsibility for plans to build 10 000 km of conventional railway, plus road and port investment projects.
A graduate from the University of Brasilia, Figueiredo had recently been chosen to head Etav. He was formerly Director General of the national Land Transport Authority ANTT, and before that had served as Administration & Finance Director at Valec and as CEO of the National Association of Railway Transport (ANTF).
