Austrian Federal Railways CEO Christian Kern (main photo) was selected as the country’s Chancellor on May 17, following the resignation of Werner Faymann. Chief Financial Officer Josef Halbmayr (second photo) has stepped in to fulfil his duties temporarily, pending a decision on an interim successor on May 24. ÖBB expects to name a permanent replacement for Kern in July.
Meanwhile, Kern has appointed Jörg Leichtfried to succeed Gerald Klug as Transport Minister.
