Flooding on the Hudson Bay Railway

CANADA: Up to C$5·4m of federal funding has been awarded for 20 projects to develop and implement of technologies which will help railways to understand and mitigate the risks arising from climate change

‘We’re building a more climate resilient country, and investing in measures such as the Rail Climate Change Adaptation Programme demonstrates the government of Canada’s ongoing commitment — underpinned by our work on Canada’s first National Adaptation Strategy’, said Minister of Environment & Climate Change Steven Guilbeault on March 2. ‘This rail safety programme will help prepare for the effects of climate change and ensure the safety and wellbeing of our families, communities and the environment well into the future, which is the whole point of adaptation.’

The Rail Climate Change Adaptation Programme has now funded around 800 projects.
