BRAKES: Spanish firm Tecnopraim has developed a laser tool for monitoring the condition of brake discs.

ReaDisc is designed to measure surface roughness with micrometre precision, enabling rolling stock operators to identify any abnormal wear and reduce their costs by optimising disc life.

Users do not need to wear safety glasses to use the laser unit, which can be operated without requiring special training. It is clamped in place with magnets, and data is transferred wirelessly to an external device such as a smart phone or tablet computer which can display the details of the scanned surface.
