AUSTRALIA: The government of South Australia has awarded Bombardier Transportation a contract to supply a further 12 three-car A-City electric multiple-units to increase capacity on the Adelaide suburban network.

The order announced on June 28 will take the A-City fleet to 34 units. The 1 600 mm gauge 25 kV 50 Hz EMUs operating on the Seaford and Gawler lines have a capacity of 240 seated and 300 standing passengers. Bombardier said they offer ‘premium’ passenger comfort, and are equipped to handle the city’s hot summers.

‘Since 2005, Bombardier has been supporting Adelaide’s mobility needs with its diesel and electric commuter trains and this contract variation is another huge endorsement of our workforce and the quality of the products designed, built and maintained here in Australia’, said Wendy McMillan, President of Bombardier Transportation’s South East Asia & Australia Region.
