GERMANY: Czech open access freight operator EP Cargo has ordered two Bombardier Transportation Traxx AC3 15 kV 16·7 Hz electric locomotives, with the first scheduled to be delivered in late March.

The locomotives are to be used by EP Cargo Deutschland to haul fly ash and gypsum to Stralsund from lignite power plants in Brandenburg and Sachsen belonging to Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke, a sister company to EP Cargo in the EPH Group.

‘This contract is a first step in EP Cargo’s investment programme which includes the expansion of our locomotive fleet’, said Rüdiger Lorentz, Managing Director of EP Cargo Deutschland.

EP Cargo has operated Siemens Vectron locomotive 193.823 since February 2016, and its LokoTrain subsidiary leases locomotives 193.220–222 from ELL.
