PORTUGAL: Leasing company Alpha Trains has taken delivery of six Euro 4000 diesel locomotives from Stadler’s Valencia plant.

Two of the locos are for Iberocargo, while four are to be used by Medway on cross-border freight services between Spain and Portugal under the Portuguese operator’s first leasing agreement with Alpha Trains.

‘Expanding and updating our fleet with these four new interoperable locomotives represents a huge step towards our business goals’, said Medway President Carlos Vasconcelos on June 8. He said the locomotives would support Medway’s entry into the Spanish market, where it aims to ‘focus on innovation, sustainability and modernisation’ to become ‘the leading freight operator in the Iberian Peninsula’.

More than 100 Euro 4000 locomotives have now been delivered to European freight operators. ‘The robust and reliable six-axle locomotives offer high flexibility and hauling capacity, low energy consumption and reduced operational costs contributing to the profitability of rail freight transport’, said Stadler Valencia CEO Iñigo Parra.
