ITALY: Trentialia has ordered a further 27 Coradia Meridian regional electric multiple-units for delivery between mid-2018 and mid-2019, Alstom announced on November 13.

The €170m order has been placed within a framework agreement signed in late 2012, and will take Trenitalia’s fleet of Coradia Meridian units, which it operates under the brand name Jazz, to 118.

Alstom said the 160 km/h low-floor units would have ‘spacious’ interiors, CCTV, a passenger information point, braille signs and 220 V power sockets.

‘Jazz has proven to be a reliable train appreciated by passengers and already in service in 11 Italian regions’, said Michele Viale, Alstom’s Managing Director in Italy.

Development, assembly and certification of Coradia Meridian units is undertaken at Alstom’s Savigliano site, with traction equipment from the Sesto San Giovanni plant and onboard signalling systems supplied from Bologna.
