FINLAND: Tampere city council has selected Škoda Transportation subsidiary Transtech to supply trams for the city’s future network. CAF, Pesa and Stadler Rail Valencia had also bid.

Contract signing will take place with final project approval, which is expected on October 24. Depending on the final design of the first phase, 15 to 20 ForCity Smart Artic trams 37 m long will be supplied, along with 10 years of maintenance with an option for 30 more years. There is also an option for up to 46 more trams.

The Tralli consortium of Pöyry, VR Track and YIT is to build the planned 23·5 km route linking the city centre with the University of Tampere and Hervanta.

  • Škoda has withdrawn its legal challenge to the selection of a Bombardier-Vossloh Kiepe consortium as preferred bidder to supply trams to Göteborg.
