UK: East Midlands Railway has expanded the Secret Fare scheme operated in partnership with Seatfrog, which offers savings of up to 50% in exchange for being flexible with departure times.
Passengers can book up until two days before departure, selecting their journey, date and a preference for a morning, afternoon or evening departure. Seatfrog e-mails a confirmed train time and ticket 24 h before departure.
Availability was initially between major towns and cities including Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby and London. It has now been expanded to further routes, including to Market Harborough, Wellingborough, Skegness and Cleethorpes.
‘Secret Fare is all about making it even easier to find a cheap price for your journey and providing those who have flexibility with more options’, said Simon Pready, Commercial Director at EMR. ‘More than 11 000 customers have taken advantage so far, and we think these new fares are a great addition, with many cheap options now available across both our regional and inter-city routes.’
