Grangemouth Railhead 1

UK: Forth Ports Ltd has begun work this month on a £3m project to ‘significantly’ scale up and modernise rail capacity at the Port of Grangemouth.

Two sidings are to be extended from 200 m to 775 m, so they are capable of handling the longest freight trains on the network. This is intended to enhance intermodal transport options, particularly for customers in the food, drink and perishables sectors.

‘The investment in our rail terminal is part of our strategy to provide more resilient, cost effective, greener and efficient options for rail freight transport to our existing and future customers’, said Senior Port Manager Derek Knox.

‘The unique advantage of the Grangemouth rail freight terminal is that it is directly linked to Scotland’s largest container port. This enables customers to easily connect to established short and deep-sea shipping connections to European and international markets. Additionally, excellent road connectivity to the Port and our central location provides an attractive opportunity for domestic freight flows within the UK.’
