UK: ‘We hope there will not be significant hiatus in rail work or the development of supportive policy for any longer than necessary’, said Railway Industry Association CEO Darren Caplan after the House of Commons voted on October 29 for a general election to be held on December 12.

Caplan said RIA hoped that the Williams Review of the structure of the rail industry and the and Oakervee Review of whether and how to proceed with the High Speed 2 project would report soon after the election, ‘so we can all get on with building world-class, customer-focused, rail both at home and abroad.’

He said ‘as soon as we know the composition of the new government and parliament in December, RIA will be engaging with the key players to ensure that this important work continues as soon as possible in the New Year.’
