CZECH REPUBLIC: DP Ostrava has signed the SFr45m contract with Stadler for the supply of 40 trams from its Tango family. The contract includes an option to take only 30 trams, based on the same unit price as an order for 40.

Ostrava Mayor Tomáš Macura announced on November 22 that Stadler had been selected for the contract, but losing bidder Krnovske opravarny a strojíry reportedly challenged the result.

Designated locally as Ostram NF II, each two-section unidirectional tram will be 24·9 m long, 2 500 mm wide and 3·6 m high, with an empty weight of 34·5 tonnes. Vossloh Kiepe is supplying two air-conditioners per tram, with other electrical equipment coming from Stadler, including two MPT 300 converters. There will be one unpowered and two powered bogies, with four 70 kW TSA asynchronous traction motors giving a maximum speed of 80 km/h. EC Engineering will supply its 120 EC pantograph.

CVG Group subsidiary CIEB will supply 61 seats per tram. Total capacity will be 188 passengers. Entrance height at the four double doors will be 360 mm, with the maximum floor height of 560 mm accessible by internal ramps.

Stadler will assemble the trams at a factory in Praha, and says that the first vehicle will be ready in March 2018. Deliveries are due to be completed by April 2020.

‘I believe that the Swiss quality of the new trams in Ostrava will bring higher comfort for travelling, which we really request, and our passengers will be happy about the new trams’, said DP Ostrava Executive Director Daniel Morys.
