EUROPE: Finnish train automation and onboard data system supplier EKE-Electronics has bought Humaware, a UK firm specialising in predictive condition monitoring analytics. Humaware’s software was originally developed for use with helicopters, and is now used by rail customers including Network Rail and London Underground.

EKE-Electronics plans to combine Humaware’s algorithms with its Smartvision Remote Condition Monitoring System to provide real-time actionable information about the condition of train, tram and metro vehicles so that maintenance interventions can be undertaken at the optimum time.

‘With Humaware’s unique software, we’re able to offer a comprehensive solution for data collection and analytics, as well as for planning a dynamic maintenance programme that is of interest to rail operators all over the world’, said Karl Lönngren, head of EKE-Electronics’ condition monitoring business, when the deal was announced on March 7.
