Axtone Group has acquired Langen & Sondermann, a German manufacturer of rolling stock coil and leaf springs. ‘We have been analysing our options for future development’ said Dieter Schmidt, who was the majority shareholder of L&S. ‘Ultimately we decided to join a railway components specialist group which should ensure that we will benefit from its market position, maintaining at the same time technical competence and leadership in our specialisation.’
Prof Dr Andreas Fiedler, the main shareholder in TransTec Vetschau, has acquired the assets of FTD Dessau.
In June an agreement was reached for Russian rolling stock manufacturer Transmashholding to invest in Kazakh national railway KTZ’s JSC Lokomotiv plant, which produces GE Evolution locos for the 1520 market.
GE has announced investment of $70m to double production capacity at its plant in Schenectady, New York, which produces Durathon batteries for locomotive, bus, telecoms and mining applications.
