VolkerRail has invested in heavy duty steel mast manipulators for its Colmar road-rail cranes to facilitate the installation of more than 1100 overhead electrification structures for electrification works in northwest England. VolkerRail said the manipulators would increase output per possession, and reduce the need for staff to work at height and within the crane exclusion zone. ‘This is a great example of the benefits of early contractor involvement, helping client, contractor and plant specialist become aligned to create benefit for all’, said Plant General Manager Mark Jackson. VolkerRail has also bought 12 logistics kits which include trailers and stillage frames so pre-assembled masts and structures can be delivered to worksites.
