The US High Speed Rail Coalition of public interest, trade union, environmental and business groups has launched a major campaign to ask Congress to include $205bn in funding for high speed rail in the pending infrastructure bills, as well as ‘robust’ labour standards, a high speed rail development authority and a rail trust fund. A bipartisan group of former Secretaries of Transportation Ray LaHood, Anthony Foxx and Norman Mineta serve as co-chairs.

VUŽ, which runs the Velim test centre in the Czech Republic, is planning a €10m five-year investment programme which includes creating a circuit for the testing of autonomous rail vehicles.

Antonio Garza and James R Huffines have been elected to The Greenbrier Companies board, increasing it from 10 to 12 members. Garza is Counsel in the Mexico City office of law firm White & Case, a director of Kansas City Southern and Chairman of Kansas City Southern de México. Huffines has more than 35 years of experience in banking and finance, most recently as Chief Operating Officer for subsidiaries of Hilltop Holdings.

Simmons Machine Tool Corporation has acquired Hegenscheidt-MFD Corp, with the combined companies now known as NSH USA Corp and providing sales, process engineering, programming, and service support for all companies in the NSH Group. Simmons, Stanray and Hegenscheidt machines for the US rail market will continue to be manufactured in Albany, New York.

Jeffrey Stevens has been promoted to the new position of Senior Vice-President of the ENSCO Surface Transportation Group, which comprises of the Applied Technology & Engineering Division, Railway Technology Division and subsidiaries ENSCO Rail and ENSCO Rail Australia. ‘Jeff’s leadership will allow ENSCO to continue our support of government, commercial and international rail customers and to successfully pursue opportunities in the broader surface transportation market’, commented ENSCO President Boris Nejikovsky.
