Tallinn.

ESTONIA: Tallinn urban transport operator Tallinna Linnatranspordi has selected CAF for a contract to supply 15 low-floor trams. Deliveries are scheduled to start within 21 months and be completed within 32 months.

The 1 067 mm gauge trams will be 2 300 mm wide and equipped for regenerative braking. They are to be deployed on Line 4 between Ülemiste and Tondi, which is being modernised using EU Cohesion Funds. The operator hopes that modern vehicles offering easy access and air-conditioning will help to attract a wider ridership to public transport.

The contract is worth €44·25m, including staff training, and is to be funded through the sale of carbon credits. There is an option for a further 15 vehicles.

Stadler had also submitted a bid for the contract.
