DB Cargo UK has launched a ‘Together. We’re Safer. Together. We’re DB’ safety campaign developed with design agency Studio Up North which aims to empower its 2 200 staff to stop any activity that they see or feel may be unsafe. Staff have been issued with a safety intervention card which gives them the authority, backed by the management board, to challenge any activity or instruction they believe is unsafe, whether it is being undertaken by a colleague, customer or contractor. ‘Empowering colleagues to intervene when things don’t look safe — even if their concerns ultimately prove to be unfounded — shows they care and they will not be criticised for doing so’, said Head of Safety Marc Binney.

RZD Logistics and UTLC ERA have organised what they say was the first block train service carrying refrigerated containers from China to Russia via Kazakhstan. This transported 50 self-contained refrigerated containers of frozen fruits and vegetables, seafood, and other agricultural products from Nunchun in Shandong province to Selyatino near Moscow region via Dostyk, The operators said increasing demand for export-import transport between Russia and China made the use of more routes particularly important, and four return trains per month are planned.
