Transport of soft drinks between Coca-Cola Europacific Partners’ manufacturing sites and warehouses in London and Yorkshire has been switched from road to rail. When running at full capacity, Maritime Transport’s first domestic distribution intermodal service will deliver 2·5 million cans and bottles per day by rail, with traction provided by GB Railfreight.

EBRD is considering the provision of a sovereign loan of up to €40m to Egypt, which would then be allocated to Egyptian National Railways to partially finance track, signalling and telecoms equipment for the €220m Robeiky – 10th of Ramadan – Belbeis railway. This would connect the 10th Ramadan Dry Port, being developed under a PPP scheme, with ENR’s main line network, enabling freight traffic to bypass Cairo while also carrying some commuter services. The remaining cost would be financed by another financial institution via a sovereign loan, while the Egyptian government would fund civil works.

LTG Cargo Polska has begun providing rail transport services for poultry producer Cedrob, operating up to 20 round trips per month primarily from Gdynia to various other cities. ‘This new agreement is an important step for both the development of our subsidiary and the diversification of LTG Cargo’s activities’, said CEO Eglė Šimė. At the beginning of September the company opened an office in Katowice, and started transporting cargo for Loconi Intermodal between Gdansk and Slavkov.

Belaruskali is taking delivery of 1 300 hopper wagons from Russia’s BelVEBleasing, with credit support provided by VEB.RF. New wagons were needed to restructure export logistics chains in the light of EU and US sanctions.

Globaltrans subsidiary NPK which specialises in transport of metals, oil, construction materials and coal by rail in Russia has signed an agreement to buy up to 1 000 open wagons by the end of 2022, augmenting its fleet of 45 000.

Norfolk Southern

Norfolk Southern has created a combined Transportation & Network Operations organisation led by Paul B Duncan, who has been promoted to Senior Vice-President Transportation & Network Operations and will lead the team responsible for co-ordinating the movement of trains.

Togliattiazot has leased 425 hopper wagons for transporting mineral fertilisers and 540 tank cars for transporting ammonia. The Russian company has announced plans to purchase over 900 ammonia wagons in 2022 and more than 1 100 urea wagons by the end of 2023, as its main export route, the Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline, is currently out of use as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Medway has moved historic rolling stock from the Móra la Nova rail museum in Spain for use in the production of an Italian film.
