SPAIN: Infrastructure manager ADIF is to launch a €50m programme of track renewals on the metre gauge line between Gijón, El Berrón and Pola de Laviana on September 1. The existing track dates from when the line was converted from 1 445 mm to 1 000 mm gauge in 1983.

The main contractor is Convensa, which has a 22-month contract worth €30·3m. Other contracts totalling €19m have been awarded for the supply of rails, sleepers and ballast.

The line from Pola de Laviana to El Berrón will be closed to all traffic between September 1 2022 and March 15 2023, with partial closures between El Berron and Gijón from September 1 2022 to July 15 2023.
