SERBIA: Further agreements for Russian Railways to support the modernisation of the Serbian rail network were signed when Russia’s President Putin visited Beograd on January 17.

Representatives of the two governments signed a memorandum for the joint implementation of infrastructure maintenance activities, while Infrastruktura Železnice Srbije and RZD International signed contracts for infrastructure works worth US$230m.

The contracts cover the second stage of rebuilding the 40 km Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section of the Beograd – Budapest line for 200 km/h operation, construction of a traffic control centre and planning the modernisation of the 210 km route from Valjevo to Vrbnitsa and the border with Montenegro.

RZD has modernised more than 200 route-km of the Serbian network since 2014, including sections of Pan-European Corridor X and the Beograd – Bar line.
