ALGERIA: Railway development agency ANESRIF has awarded a consortium of Siemens, Estel Rail Automation and local telecommunications supplier Infratele a €27m contract to resignal 43 km of SNTF infrastructure linking the industrial centre of Senia with the port of Arzew. Including four stations, work is due for completion in 2012.

As consortium leader and project integrator, Siemens will be supplying its Trainguard 100 train control system and Vicos automatic operations control system, as well as Simis-W electronic interlockings which are being installed in Algeria for the first time.

National operator SNTF formed its Estel subsidiary in 1988 to undertake signalling and telecommunications work. Siemens AG has owned a 51% stake in Estel since 2004.
