USA: The Department of Transportation has announced the award of more than $233m from the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair programme for 11 projects to improve inter-city passenger rail services in eight states.

‘Americans rely on inter-city passenger rail to travel, get to work, and visit loved ones’, said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on August 18. ‘The Partnership Programme improves upon this safe, affordable, and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation and brings us closer to delivering the world-class passenger service Americans deserve.’

The Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, has expanded the funding and scope of FRA’s Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail grant programme, with $7·2bn/year available for the next five years for work to establish or expand inter-city passenger services or improve existing ones.
