The first railway in what is now Bosnia-Herzegovina opened in 1872. Following the civil war (1991-95) and as a result of the Dayton peace agreement, two entities were created within Bosnia-Herzegovina -- the Federation and Republika Srpska. BHŽJK/ŽFBH operates the railways in the Federation area, which comprise the main line from Žavidovici to Sarajevo, Mostar and Ploce (Croatia), a group of lines around Tuzla, lines in the Brcko district, and other isolated sections.
