The city’s street tramway was upgraded from 1978-91 with city-centre tunnels and seven underground stations, and many surface sections on segregated track. Line 4 to Lohmannshof was opened in 2002, and Line 2 was extended from Milse to Altenhagen on December 6, 2015 (1·2 km, 2 stops). The fleet is being modernised, with Heiterblick and Kiepe Electric supplying 24 new LRVs from 2020.
