SWEDEN: Trafikverket has appointed Sweco to provide planning, design and support services for the modernisation of Stockholm Central station. The aim is to adapt the country’s busiest station and its environment to meet future needs and improve accessibility.

Announcing the contract on August 14, Sweco said the size, location and importance of the station mean that the modernisation which is to be undertaken in phases running through to 2022 would be one of the most complex railway schemes to have been undertaken in Sweden

‘We are pleased to be working closely with Trafikverket to create the railway hub of the future for travellers and freight’, said Åsa Bergman, President of Sweco Sweden. ‘With this project, we are providing our expertise, experience and commitment within a range of disciplines, from railways, environment and architecture to design, technical building services and project management.’
