HONG KONG: MTR Corp has confirmed that Jay H Walder will take over as Chief Executive Officer with effect from January 1 2012, for an initial term of 30 months. He succeeds C K Chow, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of this year.
Walder is currently serving as Chairman & Chief Executive Officer at New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, but he had already announced his intention to stand down from October 21 (RG 8.11 p60). He will join MTR on November 1 as CEO Designate.
Having held a variety of posts at MTA in 1985-2001, Walder served as Managing Director, Finance & Planning, at Transport for London in 2001-07. He was then Global Leader of the Infrastructure Practice at consultancy McKinsey & Co in London before returning to New York in October 2009 to start a six-year term at MTA. He is a member of the Executive Board at UITP and the APTA Executive Committee.
