SLOVAKIA: National operator ZSSK has award Stadler a contract to supply more Kiss double-deck electric multiple-units.

The agreement signed on April 30 includes a firm order for two EMUs to be delivered from the Stadler Polska plant in Siedlce during 2026-27 for use on Bratislava – Žilina services. There are options for two more units which would take the total value of the deal to €100m.

Stadler previously supplied four Kiss EMUs to ZSSK in 2023 for use on services from Bratislava to Nové Zámky, Trenčín and Púchov.

‘Fleet renewal is a pillar of our vision for modern and sustainable transport’, said ZSSK CEO Peter Helexa when the latest order was confirmed. ‘Thanks to today’s signing, we will bring innovative units to Slovak railways that will not only increase passenger comfort and satisfaction but also reduce energy consumption to 12 kWh per train-km and save dozens of tonnes of emissions annually.’

The 160 km/h 25 kV 50 Hz AC six-car EMUs will be 155·9 m long with 611 seats, including 30 in first class, and space for two wheelchair users, 15 bicycles and two pushchairs. One of the four toilets will be equipped for passengers with reduced mobility.

They will have air-conditioning, wi-fi, CCTV and certified energy monitoring systems, as well as Mirel VZ1 and ETCS Level 2 train control systems.
