FINLAND: The national railway group’s rolling stock maintenance company VR FleetCare has awarded Knorr-Bremse RailServices a contract to maintain the brake control and wheel slide protection equipment on 46 Sr2 electric locomotives until 2028.
The mixed-traffic locos have been in service since the mid-1990s. They are fitted with Knorr-Bremse brake control and wheel slide protection equipment, however the electronic components are increasingly affected by age and obsolescence.
The ‘single-digit million-euro’ contract announced on August 26 covers planned overhauls as well as repairs, including proactive obsolescence management to ensure continued operation if any critical parts are discontinued.
‘For the first time, Knorr-Bremse is supporting a client with one of its new two-pronged carefree packages, covering both refreshment and repair service’, said Knorr-Bremse Rail Vehicle Systems management board member Mark Cleobury.
