SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority has awarded an Alstom-led consortium a contract to supply CBTC signalling, communication systems and platform screen doors for the Thomson-East Coast Line extension project.

The 14 km TELe will start at the future Sungei Bedok station, which is scheduled to open in 2026 as a temporary terminus for the TEL, and run to a new station at Changi Airport Terminal 5 and then to the existing Changi Airport station on the East West Line.
The section of the East West Line from Changi Airport to Expo and Tanah Merah is to be incorporated into the TEL as part of the extension project. This will require changes to the signalling, communications, controls, power supply systems, platform screen doors and tracks.
Unique challenge
Under the contract ‘worth a couple of hundred million euros’ which was announced on August 5, Alstom will provide the same Urbalis CBTC for the TELe as is in operation on TEL, while its consortium partner ST Engineering will provide the data communications system and more than 230 sets of platform screen doors.
ST Engineering will also provide communications and access management systems under a separate contract.
‘The Thomson-East Coast Line Extension presents a unique challenge with its combination of existing and new stations, and we will leverage our experience, technical and engineering capabilities to ensure smooth deployment’, said Gareth Tang, Acting President, Urban Solutions at ST Engineering.
