CÔTE D’IVOIRE: A consortium of DTP Terrassement, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Hyundai Rotem and Dongsan signed an initial agreement to build an urban rail line in Abidjan on April 11.

Hyundai Rotem is to supply rolling stock and signalling, Dongsan Engineering electrification, and DTP Terrassement and Bouygues Travaux Publics and will be responsible for engineering work.

The 37 km line would connect the northern and southern suburbs via the city centre, and would serve Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport. Ridership is estimated at 300 000 passengers a day.

Construction could begin in 2017 and end in 2020. It is estimated to cost €1bn, and will be financed by the consortium, which will have a stake of at least 40% in the operator once the line opens.
