Alstom Southern Africa has appointed Shumani Madanda as CEO of Bombela Maintenance Co, the special purpose company which maintains the Gautrain railway and rolling stock fleet. He has more than 20 years of experience in railway engineering, having started his career at Transnet Freight Rail and later joining Gautrain during the construction phase.

Conduent has announced its intention to sell or spin-off its Transportation business. ‘Based on the progress we’ve made and the stability and credibility the Transportation business has established with its client base, we are confident that the time is right to pursue a separation’, said President & CEO Cliff Skelton on April 7. ‘The Transportation business is driven by different underlying macroeconomic trends with a discrete client base and growth profile. We believe this separation will unlock significant value by dislodging any potential conglomerate discount and enabling a more focused approach to capital and resource allocation.’

IVU has acquired 100% of the shares of Zuse-Institut Berlin spin off company LBW Optimization, gaining exclusive access to its optimisation algorithms for transport resource planning. LBW will remain an independent organisational unit and will be expanded into an optimisation laboratory for IVU.

William J Duggan retired as Vice-President of Operations at railway investment and management company Railroad Development Corp on March 31. He began his career as a motor car repairman’s helper on the Illinois Central in 1966, and has held roles at RDC including President of Ferrovías Guatemala and a board member of RDC Deutschland.

Andreas Schell is to step down as CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG and Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Solutions GmbH (formerly MTU Friedrichshafen), having held the post since January 2017. Under an agreement with the company’s supervisory board announced on April 7, he will continue to serve as acting CEO until the end of 2022.
