SINGAPORE: A joint venture agreement for the provision of rolling stock maintenance, repair and overhaul services in Southeast Asia was signed by Faiveley Transport and the Singapore Rail Engineering subsidiary of transport operator SMRT on April 9.

Faiveley Rail Engineering Singapore’s activities will include support for braking, door, platform screen door, heating ventilation and air-conditioning and power supply systems, as well as supporting logistics and warehousing services. The geographical scope covers Southeast Asia but excludes Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

‘As Southeast Asian countries including Singapore develop their rail networks, we believe that the market for maintenance, repair and overhaul services will grow significantly over the next 10 years’, said SRE Managing Director Mario Favaits. ‘Headquartered in Singapore, the joint venture will contribute directly to improving the reliability and availability of trains, improving the overall travel experience for the Singapore commuter. By leveraging on the expertise and knowledge we plan to extend our services to cater to the demand for MRO and logistic services beyond Singapore and into the region.’
