ROMANIA: Three bids to participate in the privatisation of national freight operator CFR Marfa were received by the May 8 deadline, the Ministry of Transport has confirmed.

Submissions were received from

  • OmniTRAX Inc, a US-based short line management group;
  • SC Grup Feroviar Român, Romanian's largest private freight operator;
  • A consortium of private freight operator Transferoviar Grup and investor Donau-Finanz.

Privatisation of CFR Marfa is to be undertaken through a negotiated sale of a 51% stake in the business to a prequalified company, with the government setting a reserve price of €180m.

The initial bids are due to be scrutinised by May 15, when the shortlisted applicants will be announced. The Ministry hopes to selected a winning bidder in June.
