THAILAND: State Railway of Thailand signed a contract for CSR Qishuyan to supply 20 locomotives on June 25.
The metre-gauge diesel-electric locomotives with AC traction equipment are scheduled to be delivered in 2015 for use on freight trains as part of a 'hub and spoke' intermodal distribution model which is being developed by SRT. The national railway company expects to order 50 locomotives in the next two years.
CSR said it has now supplied locomotives and related products to 80 countries, and it hopes that the Thai contract will provide a platform for further exports to customers in the ASEAN region.
