Ethiopian Railways Corp Chief Executive Hlina Belachew

ETHIOPIA: National railway Ethiopian Railways Corp held a National Railway Business Investment summit on October 21 with a view to attracting investment and establishing partnerships to implement projects.

Chief Executive Hlina Belachew said ERC’s vision is to make Ethiopia the logistics hub of the Horn of Africa by establishing a nationwide integrated network that connects regions, promotes domestic trade, and strengthens alliances.

She said the railway lines being built are a ‘symbol of the hope of a generation and the prosperity of the country’, and ERC is ready to work with interested companies through private and public partnerships or joint ventures.

Minister of Transport & Logistics Ato Denge Boru said the railway should be cost-effective and enable industries to connect with each other, increasing their capacity and enabling the country to have world-class logistics services.

African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure & Engineering Lerato Matabome said Africans should strengthen their ties by developing a transcontinental railway infrastructure, with Ethiopia’s railway sector serving as an example to others and demonstrate that Africa can meet its infrastructure needs on its own.
