UZBEKISTAN: The Silkway Central Asia joint venture of Kazakh company PTC Holding and Uzbek national railway UTY has awarded China Railway Construction Engineering Group a turnkey contract to design, build and equip a rail-served multi-purpose logistics centre near Toshkent.
The US$84m first phase is scheduled to open in 2027, with completion planned for 2030. Facilities at the 159 ha site will include container yards covering 172 000 m², more than 167 000 m² of warehousing, an industrial zone and a trade and exhibition complex covering 18 700 m².
It is predicted that up to 3 million tonnes of freight will pass through the site annually by 2035.

The project is being implemented under bilateral co-operation agreements reached by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in December 2022. Construction was ceremonially launched in November 2025.
‘The signing of the EPC contract marks the transition from strategic agreements to practical implementation’, said Silkway CA CEO Daniyar Tiesov when deal was signed on March 3. ‘We are creating a modern logistics hub that will strengthen the transit potential of Central Asia and become an important link in the Eurasian transport corridors. For us, this is not just a construction project — it is a long-term investment in the development of the regional economy and international trade.’
