Elga-Trans TMH Bryansk 3TE25K2M diesel locomotive

TMH Bryansk has completed delivery of six 3TE25K2M main line diesel locomotives ordered by Elga-Trans in May for use at the Elga coal mine in Yakutia. This is the first private customer for the 3TE25K2M design, which is also used by Russian Railways.

East-West Gate 5G

The East-West Gate Intermodal Terminal which is being built at Fényeslitke in Hungary is to use a private 5G network supplied by Vodafone Hungary and Huawei Technologies for internal communications. East-West Intermodal Logistics Services said the facility would be the first in Europe to use its own 5G network, and the first in the world with fully-automated overhead cranes remotely controlled using 5G.

Quasar Platform has added GPS, telematics, waybill, geofencing and event status update features to its shipment management application. ‘With these new features, Quasar Shipment Management goes beyond the basic “where’s my railcar” tracking and health monitoring tools’, said General Manager Corrie Banks. ‘We provide more than 70 data connections including data from yards, shippers, Class Is, AEI readers, e-mails and PDFs. And we provide the insights into all of that data in one place.’

RENFE Mercancías has called tenders for an initial batch of 12 triple-voltage 120 km/h electric locomotives with last mile capability for use in Spain and France, with an option for a further six and 15 years of maintenance.

Metal recycling and waste management specialist Ward has opened a rail-connected metal processing site at DB Cargo UK’s terminal at Barking in east London. ‘We established the potential for buying metals from other London-based merchants and cost effectively transporting them via rail to our other sites, for recycling and export’, said Donald Ward, Operations Director at Ward. ‘We’ve worked with DB Cargo UK to upgrade the site, installing a new weighbridge, radiation detectors, site accommodation facilities, new walls, gates and on-site security. We’ve also invested in new equipment including Liebherr material handlers and a CAT wheel loader.’

Patriot Rail has appointed Harry Zander as Chief Revenue Officer, responsible for managing and co-ordinating activities that generate revenue, identifying the most suitable markets and market segments, leading and guiding the organisation’s commercial efforts, and steering mergers and acquisitions. He was previously Senior VP of New Product Development at Trinity Rail. ‘Patriot Rail is in growth mode’, said CEO John E Fenton on October 6. ‘Harry’s track record in identifying markets where short line rail can be beneficial is essential to growing Patriot’s footprint.’
